The Easter Pilgrimage – held every two years – is heading to Seville this year for the iconic and world famous Semana Santa celebrations.
This will be a whirlwind pilgrimage of 10 Hospital Pilgrims and 20 Volunteers complete with tapas, flamenco and plenty of sangria!
Don’t expect the traditional services of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. During Holy Week, the whole city of Seville is filled with thousands of medieval robed and hooded figures, processing behind life-sized religious effigies of Christ and Our Lady, accompanied by drums, trumpets and the sounds of mourning from the crowds. We are extremely privileged to be able to join the processions of La Macarena and La Magdalena to witness these venerated statues of Our Lady as we commemorate the Passion and celebrate the Resurrection. It will be an intensely emotional and religious experience that you will never forget.
We will also explore the Royal Palace of the Alcazar and the maze of alleyways in the Barrio de Santa Cruz, rounding off a fabulous week with Easter Sunday Mass at the city’s great Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See – the largest cathedral in the world and the burial place of Christopher Columbus.
You’ll be putting on your dancing shoes and learning the art of flamenco as well as speeding off to historic Jerez to watch a traditional Andalucian horse show. There will of course also be plenty of tapas and “copas de vino rojo” along the way!
The Easter Pilgrimage is a wonderful opportunity to experience all the work, spirituality and socialising of the OMV on a much smaller scale. Visit a beautiful city, celebrate Easter as you’ve never done before and join us for an incredible week in Seville.
Your application is not a guarantee of a place on the pilgrimage and all applications will be subject to a valid DBS check and completion of an online safeguarding course.
